Head Women's Volleyball Coach

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Head Coach for Volleyball will provide an environment that will support the holistic growth of the student-athlete and develop and sustain an overall program in compliance with all institutional and NCAA regulations that results in long term team and individual success.  This position will oversee all daily aspects of the sport and their team; and will participate as an active and positive member of the Department of Athletics.

POSITION FUNCTIONS   

  • Responsible for organizing and leading a comprehensive program that consistently results in success, defined through the overall student athlete experience, including student-athlete support programs (such as study programs, leadership development, diversity training and character education programs) and other tangible outcomes such as: an overall winning record, competing in post-season competition, achieving conference championship titles, individual athletic award recognitions (all conference, all region, all American, etc), student athlete retention and graduation rates of athletes.
  • Responsible for preparation and coordination for all team and individual practice sessions as needed to maximize both team and individual athlete performance.
  • Provides direct supervision to all assigned coaching staff, including volunteers.
  • Ensure that an appropriate conditioning and strength program is designed and implemented during the designated NCAA season(s) and that a voluntary workout program is provided to all athletes for use outside designated season(s).
  • Participate with the Conference in planning season schedules, including any scrimmages as appropriate, coordinating with the Athletic Director and other coaches as necessary to seek budget and travel efficiencies and avoid facilities/resource conflicts.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Athletics, ensure that necessary game officials are requested in a timely manner and verify that game day requirements are completed or planned at least one day in prior to the competition date.
  • Responsible for total recruiting effort that meet the requirements of the sport while seeking high quality new student athletes that are capable of conference individual recognition such as: all freshmen recognition or newcomer of the year etc.
  • Coordination of all recruiting efforts and admissions of new student athletes through the Office of Admissions.
  • Work in conjunction with the Athletic Director to develop budgets and to manage expenses within the approved budget to meet the needs of the program while complying with all institutional policies regarding budgets and expense reporting.
  • Coordinate the use of all athletics facilities needed for the program with the Athletic Director, facilities (including the office of Events and Scheduling) and as needed arrange for off-campus facilities to be used with the approval of the Athletic Director.
  • Conduct program within Conference and NCAA rules and guidelines and report any infractions to the Athletic Director and Compliance Coordinator as soon as practical once identified.
  • Assist the Compliance Coordinator to verify roster accuracy for athlete eligibility; periodically check with players to insure academic effort and progress; coordinate with Compliance Coordinator and Director of Athletics on any eligibility concerns.
  • Represent the University in a professional and positive manor at required within the community and at conference or national meetings/conventions.
  • Coordinate with the Athletic Director to appropriately recognize team and individual success, including recognition of seniors and any end of season celebration.
  • In coordination with the Sports Information Director ensure that all team and athlete recognitions, season records, individual statistics and team statistics are kept current and accurate and ensure that necessary statistical reports are provided to the NCAA, conference, or regional coordinators.
  • Responsible for performing secondary duty(ies) as assigned by the Athletic Director and attending athletic department and University meetings and functions as required.
  • Provide support to fundraising efforts in coordination with the Philanthropy staff including assisting in expanding the available donor base and supporting efforts for development of these resources.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred;
  • 2 year experience coaching Volleyball required, preferably at the collegiate level;
  • Must comply with the Concordia University Texas’ Department of Athletics Procedures Handbook; NCAA and conference manuals; NCAA bylaws;
  • Must abide by all University policies;
  • Responsible to maintain a professional image while representing the University at games, practices, away trips, conventions or meetings and in the local community;
  • Dress appropriately for practices and professionally for games or matches;
  • Ability to coach and lead teams;
  • Ability to recruit non-scholarship athletes;
  • A valid driver’s license and clear driving record is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

  • Must be able to physically maneuver necessary equipment, including general ability lift up to 30lbs.;
  • Must be able to participate in required activities for long periods of time, including outdoor environments in varying weather conditions;
  • Expected to work extended hours and weekends.
