POSITION SUMMARY
The part-time Esports Head Coach will be responsible for all aspects of the collegiate Esport program. This position is responsible for recruiting, instructing and coaching students in specific games such as Valorant, League of Legends, Super Smash Ultimate, Rocket League, Apex, and Overwatch. Acting within the mission of the University the Esports coach will provide the management of all day-to-day operational functions of a competitive collegiate Esports teams. Concordia University is a faith-based, Lutheran institution located in Austin, Texas. This position reports to the Director of Athletics.
POSITION FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for organizing and leading a comprehensive Esports teams that consistently results in success defined by outcomes, recruitment and retention of student participants, a positive student experience, and regular season, post season and individual player accomplishments;
- Knowledge of the collegiate Esports community and particular leagues, current trends, and gaming interests;
- Provide discipline and expectations for student participants’ development to include physical, mental, and spiritual growth, leadership development, diversity training, and Title IX education.
- Responsible for preparation and coordination for all team and individual practice sessions as needed to maximize performance;
- Plan season schedules, including any scrimmages and competition as appropriate;
- Coordinate with the Athletic Director to seek budget and travel efficiencies;
- Manage Esports facilities to include scheduling and general up-keep of gaming spaces;
- The ability to evaluate gaming skills for the recruitment and retention of qualified students and competitors;
- Manage expenses and operate all team activities within the approved budget, while complying with all institutional policies regarding budgets and expense reporting;
- Coordinate fundraising and marketing efforts to supplement the Esports program growth;
- Conduct a program within the operating bylaws of competitive leagues;
- Assist the Compliance Coordinator in verification of roster accuracy and documentation;
- Support student participants academic success through monitoring academic performance, progress, and graduation;
- Represent the University in a professional and positive manner within the campus, community and meetings;
- Responsible for performing duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and Director of Student Activities
- Required attendance at University meetings and functions as required;
- Develop and oversee a program of profitable and productive youth summer camps to promote Esports and generate revenue;
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Experience coaching or gaming experience in a college setting;
- Experience in the Sales Force CRM, Discord App, Twitch, and web CMS
- Must comply with the Concordia University Texas’ Department of Policy and Procedures;
- Must be certified in first-aid, CPR and AED;
- Proven ability to recruit qualified students.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to physically maneuver necessary equipment, including general ability to lift up to 30lb;.
- A valid driver’s license and clear driving record is required.
