As a student at CTX, there are many opportunities to try new things and get out of your usual routine. Plus, as adults, we get to decide what journeys we want to embark on. From different social events on and off campus to traveling the world, Concordia Texas offers an array of resources for students to gain experience and exposure. But it is up to us to take the first step.
The following experiences provided by Concordia Texas have played a significant role in shaping who I am today.
1. Studying Abroad
In my second year of college, I enrolled in the National/International Studies course, where we collaborated virtually with entrepreneurs from Costa Rica for 16-weeks. At the end of the semester, we spent nine days working in person as part of the Immersion Program with Remote Year. Read more about my study abroad experience to Costa Rica here. 2. Networking Opportunities with CTX Leaders
The Board of Regents, the sole governing body of the University, hosts dinners to learn more about the campus community; in February of 2024, we talked about student leaders at Concordia Texas. Through Student Government, I was invited, along with other student leaders, to speak about our overall experience at CTX, the leadership and impact we have had on our community and how the community has helped us become successful.
3. Work with CEOs of companies
At Concordia Texas, we have many opportunities to work with and learn from past and current Chief Executive Officers of companies to understand the inner workings of successful businesses locally and nationally. Attending our IncubatorCTX Speaker Series is one way we can learn from CEOs of companies because they speak about their story as entrepreneurs/business employees and ask questions at the end about their presentation. Another way we work with CEOs is through guest speakers/guests in your courses as your professor may bring a professional in to speak on their experiences throughout their life and answer any questions their presentation sparks.
4. Speaking at the Right Call Initiative Press Conference
In October of 2023, Concordia Texas passed The Right Call Initiative to expand access for our students and families pursuing a college education to embark in the opportunity to attend post-secondary education by reducing our tuition by nearly 40% for the 2024-25 academic year. As Student Government President, I was able to speak on behalf of our student’s appreciation of this tuition reset that will help us -start for some and finish for many- complete our post-secondary education. Leading On-Campus Student Organization I am currently the President of Student Government and Student Athletic Advisory Committee, voted and appointed by my community and advisors. I have never been a part of student organizations until coming to Concordia Texas, so this was an amazing opportunity for me to branch out to my community, meet and work with new people, and accelerate the process of learning more about who I am and my capabilities outside of sports and academics. Concordia Texas gives abundant opportunities for students to explore new ventures and break away from our routines. As a Tornado, seize these opportunities and begin your life-changing adventure.
