Embracing Change & Opportunities: Kaitlyn’s experience at Concordia University Texas
Committing to Concordia University Texas in 2021 seems like ages ago, but the memories and knowledge I have gained here feel as though they occurred yesterday. As a Senior at an all-girl college preparatory high school during a pandemic, I had hopes of playing volleyball collegiately and returning to in-person classes. I never imagined I’d have as many opportunities to expand my life pallet as much as I have here. The change in environments, exposure to different and challenging situations, and ever-growing relationships I have made at CTX have been a welcoming invitation for personal growth in many ways.
Like many incoming first-year students, I felt nervous, scared, and excited for my foundational experiences with the campus community. I worried about the first day of classes, practices, and building my circle of friends to make a smooth transition from high school into college. But CTX makes that transition easier and welcomes all with open arms and encouragement.
In my first year, a friend asked me to join her in a meeting at school. I didn’t know it was for a student organization, but I ended up becoming a member of our Student Government and Leadership Association. Now in my senior year, I am serving my second term as Student Government President. Only the Lord knows how I went from being persuaded to join a group on campus to running it!
Being a part of different campus activities, whether it was sports, student organizations, campus jobs, or connecting with someone in class, has helped me become part of the community and succeed at CTX. With the support of my friends, faculty members, my advisor Dr.KC Pospisil, to CTX leaders like President Dr.Don Christian and Provost Dr.Kristi Kirk, I have been able to take advantage of many opportunities.
At Concordia Texas, we have built a close-knit community that encourages everyone to succeed in their own way, one step at a time. We are a home away from home, a second family you can always count on in our little oasis away from the city. We are Concordia Texas.
