Meet Dr. Prairie Burgess: Interim VP of Student Development at Concordia Texas

Dr. Prairie Burgess currently serves in multiple roles at Concordia Texas, including Interim VP of Student Development, Associate Professor, and Program Chair of Leadership Studies. In addition to these roles, she is a wife and mother, Girl Scouts Volunteer Troop Leader, and Silver Award Consultant. Dr. Burgess is a well-rounded, seasoned leader who empowers those around her, from colleagues to students, through genuine and meaningful connections. She draws on her expertise in communication and leadership to encourage and advocate for others, helping them step into leadership roles and create their own opportunities.

From Leadership Studies to Student Development: Dr. Prairie Burgess’s Vision for CTX

In the summer of 2024, Dr. Burgess transitioned into the role of Interim VP of Student Development, where she applied her leadership expertise to develop a framework that incorporates various student development theories. She aims to increase student engagement, help students navigate their personal growth paths, and empower CTX students to apply their classroom knowledge to real-life situations, environments, and experiences. This role also includes the development of CTX clubs, organizations, programs for residential halls, and student worker opportunities on campus. Dr. Burgess aims to increase the visibility of diverse groups across campus, making it easier for students to find engagement and development opportunities. She is also working to build a stronger support system to foster a more vibrant campus community by implementing intentional structures, planning, and opportunities to enhance school traditions and spirit.

Fun facts about Dr. Burgess: In her free time, Dr. Burgess serves her community through her children's schools and by volunteering with Girl Scouts as a troop leader and Silver Award Consultant. She has also visited 47 of the 63 National Parks and other national sites, deepening her love for exploring and embarking on new journeys in God’s creation.
