Art Department Concordia University Texas

The Division of Art

The College of Liberal Arts is currently developing an innovative major in Art. Foundation courses begin with a comprehensive focus on 21st century visual culture including visits to gallery exhibitions and museums. The program encompasses Common Experience courses in Art History alongside music and theater. In addition to upper level courses in contemporary art theory, a lecture series of guest artists is planned for inspiring and sustaining an exploration of emerging art forms.

Art majors will be able to choose a Studio Art or Interface Design track leading to a variety of exciting career paths. The refinement of using traditional media such as drawing, painting, photography, ceramics and sculpture will coincide with learning the conceptual frameworks for digital applications, public installations, performance and participatory art. Students will either focus on a single medium within their concentration or pursue the articulation of ideas and working methodologies across multiple media. The Division of Art at Concordia is committed not only to the honing of visual skills and the mind, but to the cultivation of the Spirit of Christ in contemporary art-making.
