Dr. Patricia Griggs Burnham, Director of Programs in Music at Concordia University Texas and Assistant Professor of Music. She has served on the music faculty since 1998. She has held other University positions at the Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, VA and a graduate teaching assistant at the Catholic University of America.

Dr. Burnham received her Doctorate of Music Arts degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. where she studied Piano Performance and Pedagogy. She holds a Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy and a Master of Music Education from the Florida State University, and the Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education from Old Dominion University. Her teachers include Marilyn Neeley, Barbara Maris, Marvin Blickenstaff, Carolyn Bridger and Victoria McArthur.

Dr. Burnham grew up in Virginia Beach, VA where she began piano study at the age of 6. She has performed as a soloist and accompanist in major cities throughout the United States. Some performance highlights include the Ambassador Theater in LA and the Wolftrap Performing Arts Center in Washington D.C. where she performed the Sonata for piano and guitar by Radames Gnattali with Brazilian guitarist Carlos Barbosa-lima, along with premier performances of works for guitar and piano by composer Bobby Scott. She has also performed with such notables as guitarist Charlie Byrd, flutists Carol Wincence and Eva Amsler.

Dr. Burnham is an active performer as a soloist, accompanist or in collaboration with chamber groups. She enjoys all facets of performing, most especially chamber music.

The Concordia Faculty Trio consisting of fellow colleagues Dr. Karla Hamelin, cello and Dr. Ellen C. Johnson, flute made its debut during the 2008-2009 school year. The three perform together for recitals, Master Classes and Community Outreach.

Other professional activities include adjudication for the National Piano Guild and the National Federation of Music Clubs; appearances in Master Classes and Pedagogy Clinics, workshops at church music conferences; reviews for professional music publications, church work as pianist/keyboardist and choral accompanist for traditional and blended services; and private studio teaching.

Dr. Burnham is a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers, Austin District Music Teachers, the Music Teacher’s National Association, Texas Music Educator’s Association, the College Music Society and ASCAP.

She has been recorded on Concord Records with guitarist Carlos-Barbosa-lima, and her solo CD was recorded in 2003.
